Having supported the Scottish Women’s Football Awards for the second year running this year, local business owners Ciorsdan and Stephen Price were delighted to present the trophy for Volunteer of the Year to Sarah Herd of East Fife GWFC at the award’s ceremony held recently.

Owners of Recognition Express West Scotland, based in Ayr, Ciorsdan and Stephen have previously spoken of their pride in being involved in the awards which celebrate the successes of all those involved in the women’s game in Scotland and were pleased to join over 450 guests as they came together at the ceremony held at the Glasgow Marriot hotel recently to show their support for girls’ and women’s football in Scotland.

As a member of the senior group at East Fife GWFC, winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award, Sarah Herd, wears four hats for her team – manager, coach, volunteer and player. Having just completed her third season at the club, Sarah has never missed a game and has made a total of 21 appearances, scoring four goals as central defender.

Sarah takes training session twice a week, organises spin class for her teammates and has played a key role in integrating 13 under 17 player into the senior team this season. This has involved organising days out funded by completing a tough mudder contest. What is most impressive is that Sarah has dedicated her time to her team while living and working full-time in Dundee, travelling by bus to training and matches over three times a week!

Within Sarah’s award nomination it was stated: “Sarah is passionate about football and giving players an opportunity when they might not get it elsewhere. She has players aged from 14-44 in her squad and has created a real team atmosphere. Sarah buys player of the match prizes every week out of her own money. She organised a quiz every away game for the bus included with prizes. She hosts a team BBQ every year for 20+ players, organised days out such as go karting, laser tag, meals, bubble football plus more. She looks out for the younger ones’ development in particular and those taking the next step into senior football.”

Recognition Express West Scotland specialises in corporate recognition merchandise and has a comprehensive range of medals, award plaques and glass trophies among its catalogue of products and Ciorsdan commented: “Supporting these awards was a natural fit for our business in terms of products, but we are also delighted to be supporting women’s football in Scotland. It was fantastic to meet Sarah and present her award. She really is a shining star in Scottish women’s football.”
